Residents Lead Community Garden Project

People living at Craven Crescent in Addingham were sick of cars parking on the grassed area in the middle of their street – so they did something about it.

After a conversation with Gemma, their Incommunities Neighbourhood Housing Officer, the local people came up with the idea of creating a community garden, which could be enjoyed by everyone and would bring the community together.

Gemma put in a Local Area Bid (this is a pot of money that is set aside for things that will benefit residents and local community) for some money to help get the project started.

Once the money was awarded, it was over to the local community to bring the garden dream to life.

Residents of Addingham

Residents planted fruit trees, and with the help of a volunteer landscape gardener and the Addingham Environmental group, the garden started to take shape.

The residents were keen to make the garden enjoyable and accessible to everyone so are including raised planters which can be used by people with restricted mobility.

A great example of what can be achieved when a community works together!
