Keeping your home safe is one of our priorities and carrying out an electrical test helps us do that. The test checks the electrical installation in your home to ensure the electrics are in good condition.
We've asked Ashley and McDonough Compliance Services to carry out electric tests on all our homes. The test takes place every 5 years or when someone is moving in to one of our homes.
We know that letting people into your home is a big deal, so we have put together some frequently asked questions, to help explain why the test is so important and what will happen during the test.
An electrical test shows us the condition of the electrical installation in your home. This means that we can make sure that the electrics are in satisfactory condition.
The electrician will check the wiring and fuse board in your home, to make sure they are in good condition. This will involve checking switches, lights, sockets and the fuse board.
They will not be checking any of your appliances such as lamps that plug in, toaster, kettle, hairdryer etc.
They will also check that you have smoke detectors fitted and that they are working properly.
If any faults are found during the test, these will be repaired and any broken items will be replaced, for example, faulty light switches.
The test can take between 2-3 hours to complete.
The electrical test will be carried out by a company called Ashley & McDonough Compliance Services and they will write to you with an appointment.
They will keep to any agreed appointments and contact you if they need to rearrange, giving you as much notice as possible.
If you know you won’t be in at the time on your appointment letter, please contact Ashley & McDonough to arrange an alternative appointment:
Phone: 0151 430 6191
Email: Info@the-amgroup.co.uk
Once you receive your appointment letter from Ashley & McDonough, please get in touch with them to confirm the appointment.
If you need to rearrange your appointment, please give at least 48 hours’ notice.
Ashley & McDonough Compliance Services is a specialist electrical testing company. They have the large number of electricians needed to get around the homes that we provide.
They carry out lots of testing like this for other housing providers across the UK, so they know exactly what to look for and will do the test as efficiently as possible.
The Ashley & McDonough electricians will be carrying an identification badge which has their photo on it.
Their logo looks like this:
Do not let anyone into your home to do the test if they don’t have the Ashley & McDonough Compliance Services identification badge.
We have a legal obligation to make sure the electrical installation in your home is safe which means it is really important that Ashley and McDonough carry out the test.
If Ashley and Mcdonough can’t access your home, after they have written to you a number of times, then we will have to start legal action to get a Court Order to gain entry. Failure to allow the work to be completed is a breach of your tenancy agreement.
