Safeguarding policy

Why we have a policy?

Our safeguarding policy sets a standard for the level of protection that our customers can expect to receive from us.

Having a policy means that everyone is clear on what we can and can’t do, so there’s no unexpected surprises along the way.

The policy explains the timings that we aim to meet, how we will safeguard you, who is responsible for safeguarding and how you can report safeguarding concerns.

This section of the website gives you an overview of the policy, but you can read the whole thing if you like – Safeguarding policy. If you would like us to post you a paper copy of the safeguarding policy, please email your name and address to enquiries@incommunities.co.uk

How we’ll safeguard you?

We will use the six key principles of safeguarding, which are…

1
Empowerment
2
Prevention
3
Balance
Empowering you to make decisions that have a positive impact on your life. Supporting you to make positive choices which may help stop abuse from happening. We’ll take a balanced view, and only get involved when needed, not being too intrusive, allowing you to live your life with support.
4
Protection
5
Partnership
6
Accountability
We will respond to all reports of abuse and will take action to stop it. We’ll protect the most vulnerable people who may not always be able to tell us that they need help. We’ll work with specialist organisations to make sure that you get the support that you need. When needed, we’ll  work  with partner agencies, such as adult social care, children’s services, safeguarding teams and police. We will be really clear with you what the expectations are and will keep you informed along the way.

Who is responsible for safeguarding at Incommunities?

All Incommunities employees have a responsibility to report safeguarding concerns, and to also deal with safeguarding concerns which are reported to them. Even if they don’t work in the safeguarding team you can still report safeguarding concerns to any Incommunities employee and they will log the concern.

Timescales for actioning safeguarding concerns

When a concern is received by the safeguarding team they will respond within 1 working day, to offer feedback. The follow up to a raised concern needs to be led by the person at risk, taking account of their vulnerability, complexity, risk and wishes. Because of these requirements, we aim to conclude a case, within 10 working days of receiving a concern follow up query.

Sometimes in complex cases these target turnaround times may not be achieved. If this happens, the case will be monitored and reviewed by the Strategic Safeguarding Group. An exceptional report outlining their specific reasons and learning drawn from such concerns will be presented at this bimonthly meeting.
