Do you want to brush up on your English and Maths skills?
Incommunities currently has places available on free weekly courses for its tenantsand residents in six local centres
These are open to anyone aged 16 and over. They include the option of taking accredited qualifications in English or Maths.
Nicki Woods from the housing group’s Employability Team runs the courses and said: "The training is very flexible and tailored to attendees needs, whether that’s to help our customers with everyday tasks like working out their bills or to help get a job.
"Participants can choose from following an accredited training pathway or learning at their own pace."
Over the past two years 130 people have attended past courses. They include those wanting to gain a qualification that can help them get a job or go to college to people who want to build their confidence and get to grips with dealing with everyday tasks such as working out their budgets.
The course runs from six local community bases and three attendees from a weekly English class at Windhill Community Centre give their views.
Keighley resident, Mark Cottrell found out about the free course after attending an Incommunities’ Job Club and said: "The classes are really friendly and Nicki is always on hand to give you one-to-one support.
"I do voluntary work and this training will hopefully give me the confidence to get a job."
Tracy Dalton from Windhill said: "I want to learn and improve my life and being part of the group you feel you’re ‘in the same boat’ together.
"I really want to progress and do GCSEs in English and Maths next."
Tracy’s neighbour Chloe Burkinshaw was making her first visit to the class and said: "I heard about the training from Tracy and it’s been a great first day. I was made redundant last year and hopefully the English class will help me make successful job applications and get back into work.
Anna Fryer, Director of Incommunities – Neighbourhoods, said: "These courses run by Nicki are great at equipping people with the skills that can help them get a job, access training and improve their lives.
