Top marks – we’re celebrating our governance upgrade!

We are delighted to announce that today (13 September) we have been awarded a G1 governance rating by the Regulator of Social Housing, the highest rating a housing provider can achieve.

The G1 rating means that Incommunities now meets the highest standards for managing risks and controlling the organisation.

Since our last full assessment and previous grading in January 2024, we’ve been working closely with the Regulator to address areas for improvement in our processes.

The Regulator has now recognised the significant progress we’ve made, moving our governance rating from G2 to G1.

Today’s judgment confirms that Incommunities has “strengthened its governance arrangements which together with changes in leadership has improved its oversight of risks and quality of decision making”.

Chief Executive of Incommunities, Rachael Dennis, said: “We are delighted to have regained our G1 rating.

“We’re really pleased that the Regulator has recognised the progress that has been made, and that robust governance is now in place. We’ve not only corrected past issues but also put stronger measures in place to prevent them in the future.

“Our G1 grading is a testament to the hard work of both our colleagues and our board, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for their dedication in making this happen.

“We have been in regular contact with the Regulator since our last assessment. The process has been very positive and has provided valuable guidance, helping us to sharpen our focus where needed. We value their support and felt they were with us on our transformation journey.

“We are now looking forward to continuing our progress and delivering on the ambitions set out in our recently launched five-year Corporate Strategy. With our robust governance and leadership in place, we are well placed to have a really positive impact on our customers and communities.”

The Regulator of Social Housing assesses registered housing providers like Incommunities on how well they meet its standards.

Ratings are issued on a scale of 1 to 4 for governance and financial viability, for all social housing providers owning 1,000 or more social housing homes.

Our G1/V1 rating means:

  • G1: The highest rating a housing provider can achieve, showing that we meet the regulator’s governance requirements.
  • V1: A strong viability rating, showing that we meet viability requirements and have the financial capacity to deal with a range of challenges.
