Affordable housing explained at Soothill Community Centre

Local residents living near Soothill Community Centre are invited to attend an event on Monday, 21st October, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM to learn more about the next stage of The Orchards development.

Housing provider Incommunities is hosting the event to inform their current customers and local residents about the affordable housing options that will be available when the development goes live at the end of this month.

The second phase of The Orchards, being built by Keepmoat, includes 50 affordable homes available through Incommunities, which also owns a significant number of social homes near the site.

Speaking about the event, Marianne Cuthbertson, EDI Strategic Lead at Incommunities, said, “Monday’s event will be a chance for local people to come and learn about the affordable homes on offer.

“We have 21 shared ownership homes and 29 affordable rent homes available as part of phase two of this development. However, we know there is still a lot of confusion about what these terms mean and who can qualify. Monday will be the perfect opportunity for people to ask those questions.

“The Orchards development showcases the high standard of affordable housing available. It gives people the chance to own their own home and be proud of where they live.”

Suleman Aswat, community leader and trustee of Soothill Community Centre, added, “There is a real housing need in Batley. I support Marianne and Incommunities in trying a different approach to engaging this diverse community in person, to ensure these new homes go to those with the greatest need. I am delighted to be hosting Incommunities at our community centre.”

Marianne continued, “We hope to hold similar engagement events with the local community to ensure we are connecting in an inclusive way, addressing their diverse needs, and hearing their voices and feedback.”

The event will take place on Monday, 21st October, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM at Soothill Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about affordable housing.
