Housing staff coin-in over £9000 for good causes

Incommunities staff raise money for Macmillan Coffee morning

Caring staff at Incommunities have swum, rowed, baked, walked and even taken to a ‘zip wire’ to raise over £9,000 for a host of local and national charities in 2019.

Over £1,600 was raised for Women’s Aid in a swim challenge led by Group Chief Executive Geraldine Howley. The four-strong team took to the icy waters of Lake Windermere to take part in the Great North Swim.

Whilst a staff prize raffle at the end of 2019 raised £2061 for the local homelessness charity, Bradford Nightstop.

Residents at some of the housing group’s retirement living schemes joined staff to collect and donate £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support by organising coffee mornings and cake sales.

Meanwhile, a group of fearless staff took part in a ‘zip wire’ challenge to raise £1450 for the Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice.

The mental health charity MIND were the housing group’s chosen festive charity in 2019. A big cheque presentation was made to President of the Chartered Institute of Housing, Aileen Evans, who had chosen Mind as her fundraising cause during her term in office.

Further charities supported in 2019 included Simon on the Streets, the Leeds based Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, the Royal British Legion, Alzheimer’s Society, Save the Children and Bradford Burns Unit.

In addition, housing teams at Shipley, Bradford and Huddersfield donated food, toiletries, toys and clothes to three local foodbanks as well as Bradford Women’s Aid, the Pennine Domestic Violence Group and Bradford Nightstop.

Incommunities’ Group Chief Executive Geraldine Howley, said: "It’s been another fantastic fundraising year with charities – big and small – benefiting from the generous support of staff, residents and the group as a whole.

"It has also been wonderful to share in the positive experiences of staff in their various fundraising efforts for various charities, many of whom have been nominated by colleagues. We have had such a rewarding time in helping make a difference and change lives."
