Incommunities supporting vulnerable residents
Incommunities is pulling out all the stops to help tenants and residents in need across the Bradford District.
The housing group has helped set up a food storage and distribution hub in the city centre from where workers and volunteers are delivering thousands of food parcels to families and individuals in need.
So far 3,500 deliveries have left the food storage hub for local households in need, including 1300 to Incommunities customers.
During Easter, working with the Council and partner organisations, over 2,000 food parcels were distributed in our communities, including over 700 Incommunities customers. These even included donated Easter Eggs.
Altaf Khan from the housing group’s Intensive Housing Management Team and his sons also kindly donated hundreds of nappies, baby food, milk and wipes to Incommunities’ city centre food hub ready for distribution.
Incommunities have also linked up with Bradford Faith Centre and Council volunteers to deliver food to 195 refugees and asylum seekers who are in self isolation and short of provisions.
The housing group initially bought in over £13,000 worth of food from its suppliers to support a massive community effort.
The initiative also shows Incommunities support for the local #StillHereToHelp campaign led by Bradford District and Craven health, care and support services.
Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group Chief Executive, said: "We are working together with Bradford Council and voluntary sector partners to ensure vulnerable families and individuals are fed and supported at this challenging time.
"Staff are also calling older and vulnerable residents to check if they have any welfare needs and many are running errands such as making shopping trips and dropping off food parcels.
"As the area’s biggest social landlord we are right behind the #StillHereToHelp campaign and want to ensure people can get urgent support when they need it.
"Due to the outbreak we have had to focus on maintaining key frontline services such as carrying out emergency repairs, gas servicing and safety work, cleaning work and supporting older residents. These are challenging times but everyone is being lifted by the lovely feedback and gratitudefrom our customers.
"We are in this together and we all have a part to play in getting through."
